Urban art in rural industrial culture
More and more young people are moving from villages to cities, and at the same time, cultural offerings in rural areas are steadily declining. This makes social events and cultural activities in rural areas all the more important.
This philosophy is also embraced by the cultural network Kulturnetzwerk UW Etzdorf, which is headquartered in an abandoned substation in the idyllic Striegistal valley. There, young artists from rebel-Art and the Europäische Kunstgemeinschaft e. V. volunteer their time to preserve this historically significant building. In addition to space for exhibitions and events across various venues, the site offers a range of guest studios for both emerging and established artists.
In addition, the expansive grounds are home to, among other things, a permanent exhibition by the RAGalerie currently under construction. The exhibition will also focus on the history and future of energy supply in Central Saxony and, in keeping with the nature of the site, will explore these topics through experiments and exhibits. With the goal of developing a cultural hotspot in a rural area, a piece of the Capital of Culture is being brought to the countryside here.
