The Community Is Growing—and Celebrating!
(Updated) For the second time, the Stadtwirtschaft community is hosting a collaboratively organized event in September. This year’s courtyard festival, titled “Vom Wimmeln und Wuseln,” will take place on Sunday, September 6, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This time, the program is even more diverse than it was for the first festival during the 2025 Capital of Culture year—after all, construction work on the event site is now largely complete, and the community has grown by several members since last summer.
Get Involved with the Key Players
For the first time, “CLARO!”—the coordination center for STEM programs in southwestern Saxony—is among the key players. The initiative, which has moved into Building A of the Stadtwirtschaft, stays true to its theme even at the courtyard festival and offers exciting insights into the world of 3D printing. Also new to the Stadtwirtschaft are the Braubox Chemnitz hobby brewery and the Fauch Schoki chocolate factory. They’ll be bringing a selection of their products to the courtyard festival and inviting visitors to sample them and chat about the craft. At Fauch Schoki, you can also try your hand at handling liquid chocolate with care. The Chemnitz Kunstfabrik, the newest addition to the Stadtwirtschaft, will also be introducing itself at the courtyard festival—this established venue only opened its spaces in Buildings A and B this past August and offers Hoffest guests an artistic way to join the party by painting at an easel.
In addition, you can also get involved with other key players you’re already familiar with from last year: For example, the writing and printing workshop run by ERIKA e.V. invites you to bring your own clothing and decorate it using linocut printing (though you can also simply print on paper)—alternatively, you can design pennants for future decorations at the Stadtwirtschaft. At the Gründungsgarage Chemnitz, you can, among other things, find out how large your own carbon footprint is. At restorer and artist Ingo Scheller’s booth, a prize wheel awaits, ready to give away selected vintage products to the public. Speaking of vintage: The Zeux Materialinitiative invites you to present your own recycling and upcycling projects and get support from materials and craft experts. Art educator Marina Klavina, on the other hand, will be celebrating the closing of her exhibition “Shaping Our Home” with the courtyard festival’s guests. At the Stadtfabrikanten’s FabLab, you can explore the hands-on workshops at length, chat with makers, and try out a machine or two. The Chemnitz Museum of Natural History is also opening its fossil workshop and inviting visitors to explore. In addition, you can learn about the design of the intervention areas for Chemnitz 2025 in an exhibition and ask questions of representatives from the “Europe Direct” project.
Discoveries and Stage Program
You can also get a comprehensive overview of the development of the Stadtwirtschaft by taking one of two guided tours of the area, which begin at 3:00 and 4:00 p.m. at the bridge at 46 Jakobstraße.
In addition, there are all the other activities the Stadtwirtschaft has to offer—from climbing on the bouldering wall to relaxing in hammocks to a photo shoot with the EUJA goblins that suddenly appeared at the end of July this year. And, of course, there’s plenty of food and drink on hand to keep your energy levels up.
But that’s not all: The stage in the event yard will also be set up and used on September 6. At a Stadtwirtschaft auction, finds from the archives of Stadtwirtschaft and its key players will go under the hammer: “Wimmeln, Wuseln, Weg damit!” Big Buddha will bring musical energy to the stage with live rap—the artist has also been a member of the Stadtwirtschaft community for several months now, with a rehearsal space at Bandcamp. Freuth will provide another musical highlight—the EDM project already proved at the first courtyard festival 2025 that it can get Stadtwirtschaft buzzing and visitors dancing. So the party atmosphere is guaranteed well into the early hours of Sunday evening.
