Event Yard and Production Yard
Court Festivals
Five buildings with 12,000 square meters of open space in between—this is what Stadtwirtschaft looks like. The design of the courtyards incorporates many ideas from potential users and the neighborhood, which were gathered during workshops held as part of the National Urban Development Projects program.
The basic idea is to designate the courtyards for specific themes in accordance with KAPOK development concept. As work progresses, the three courtyards originally identified will be reduced to two: a production yard (between Building A and Building B) and an event yard (between Building A and Schüffnerstraße).
The courtyards feature areas for sports and play, relaxation and work, or gardening in the fresh air. The courtyards are also equipped to host both small and large events—with stage areas, stage equipment, water and electrical hookups, and basic outdoor furniture.
Sports and Games
The Stadtwirtschaft event yard features a 3x3 basketball court, a bouldering wall for children, and a sandbox covered by a parasol. In addition, there is some calisthenics equipment in the production yard.
Furthermore, a ping-pong table and related equipment, as well as other playing equipment, can be borrowed from the neighborhood storage.
In addition, several bicycle parking areas have been set up in both courtyards. Additional bicycle parking spaces are located at 46 Jakobstraße, in front of Building D.
Leisure and Work
At the request of potential users, the Stadtwirtschaft set up a large, covered outdoor workspace with electrical outlets and Wi-Fi between buildings A, D, and K.
Tucked away between buildings A and K is a quiet area with hammocks.
The seating areas around the dining area in the Stadtwirtschaft production yard also provide a place to relax.
You can also relax and read at the book gate set up by the key players.
Greening and Urban Gardening
Significant investments were also made in greening the courtyard areas. A green facade was installed on Building K, and rainwater is collected from the roofs of Buildings A, B, E, and K, as well as from the book gate, and used to water the newly created green spaces.
An area in the production yard has been set aside for urban gardening and is equipped with garden sheds and compost bins. Berry bushes and fruit trees have been planted around this area, which has been partially in use since 2026, including several apple trees as part of the Capital of Culture project "#3000Apfelbäume".
Information and Guidance
The wayfinding system—with its Stadtwirtschaft sculptures, site maps, and entrance signs—guides guests to their desired destination. Another wayfinding system leads people with visual impairments from the entrance at 46 Jakobstraße to the public areas and the users’ spaces.
If you follow the EUJA goblins, you'll learn about the history and current use of the Stadtwirtschaft.
In addition, an advertising column was installed in the production yard, which can be made thicker step by step. There is also a spot at the book gate where posters and flyers can be posted.
Event Space and Amenities
Stadtwirtschaft has its own basic inventory of furniture for events. This includes the Fleximöbel furniture set—designed specifically for Stadtwirtschaft (approximately 50 seats plus 8 tables)—as well as a number of lounge chairs, parasols, and pavilions. This equipment can be used for specific events.
Two areas were prepared for setting up stages in both the event yard and the production yard. The Stadtwirtschaft has a modular stage, including a roof, as well as basic sound and lighting equipment (mixing consoles, microphones, speakers, etc.). Adequate power and water supplies are provided.
The courtyards are regularly used for events of all sizes, often in combination with indoor spaces. In addition to the courtyard festival organized by key players in the Stadtwirtschaft, the venue has hosted a variety of events in recent years, including small music festivals, flea markets and clothing swap events, open-air movie screenings, dance and theater performances, and receptions.
